Anssi Lassila will be speaking at a conference on contemporary living in Florence, Italy on Thursday, September 28, 2023

Architects Eike Becker of Eike Becker_Architekten (Germany), Anssi Lassila of OOPEAA Office for Peripheral Architecture (Finland) and Lisa van der Slot of De Zwarte Hond (The Netherlands) will be presenting select projects to discuss new trends in housing.

Contemporary Living – New Trends in Europe

The conference is focused on contemporary living, and it is part of the “Glance Around” program curated by architect Arianna Callocchia. Highlighting the role of architecture in creating ecologically and socially sustainable residential buildings, the lectures provide examples of recently completed projects from Finland, Germany and the Netherlands.

Affordable Housing with High Quality Architecture

In his talk, Anssi Lassila will discuss the Puukuokka Housing Block as an illustration of the potential of using prefabricated volumetric modules made of cross laminated timber, CLT to create multistory apartment buildings with a fully wooden structure. He will also showcase the Karlsson Housing as an example of urban housing with a variety of apartment types to address the diverse needs of the city residents. Both projects are examples of architecture with a high quality to provide affordable housing built within a very strict budget frame.

A Platform for International Discussion

The event is the third one in the “Glance Around” series that was initiated in 2022. The aim of the series is to foster discussion and to create an opportunity for an international dialogue and professional exchange in Italy. It is hosted by the Florence Architects’ Foundation.

The conference is organized in collaboration with ATL – The Association of Finnish Architects’ Offices, with the contribution of the Consulate General of Germany Milan and with the patronage of the Embassy of Finland in Italy, the Embassy and Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Chamber of Architects of Florence, the Italian Council of Architects and DIDA – Department of Architecture – UniFi. The meeting was also made possible thanks to the support of Chianti Banca and EdiliziAcrobatica.

The lectures will be followed by a tasting of Italian wines offered by Casale del Giglio.
