Two OOPEAA Projects Selected as Winners of THE PLAN AWARD

Two OOPEAA projects were selected as winners of THE PLAN AWARD 2022: The Karlsson Housing for Housing and the Tikkurila Church and Housing for Public Space. Selected by an international jury of made up of leading figures in the architecture, design, real estate, and academic fields, the final results were revealed in the award ceremony last night. We thank the Jury members of THE PLAN Award for recognizing these two projects.

Karlsson Housing Winner for Housing

The KARLSSON HOUSING is an example of how architecture creates spaces for people and for life. Karlsson’s architectural qualities, variety of apartments, and generous shared spaces combine density in the city with a human scale. These qualities are even more special because the project was realized as affordable housing with a tight price ceiling for the construction.

In making the Karlsson Housing, we had the great pleasure to collaborate with the City of Helsinki, which created an excellent urban plan as a framework for this project; and Lakea, a long-time client who provided a great partnership in the design and building phase.

Tikkurila Church and Housing Winner for Public Space

Architecture is really about the people who use it, and the TIKKURILA CHURCH AND HOUSING is an example of the power of a collaborative process. It brings high architectural quality to the cityscape and makes a place for people to come together in. It has been very well received locally and it is becoming a reference point for the growing multicultural community of Tikkurila.

We thank our partners, Tikkurila Parish, Lujatalo for the Church, and HOAS the Foundation for Student Housing in the Helsinki Region for the housing. But most importantly we would like to thank all the participants, people who work in the building, experts, artists, designers, and collaborators, who worked together to make the Tikkurila Church and Housing the special place that it has turned out to be.
