Venice Art Biennale 2015 / Finnish Pavilion

The 56th La Biennale di Venezia 2015 opens its doors to the public on 9th May. OOPEAA has created the exhibition design for the presentation of the exhibition “Hours, Years, Aeons” by the artist duo IC-98 in the Alvar Aalto Pavilion of Finland at the 56th International Art Exhibition.

This year, Anssi Lassila and the OOPEAA team were commissioned by Frame-Visual Art Finland to create the exhibition architecture to set the scene for the art work by IC -98, a Finnish artist duo well known for their strong and conceptual video art.
OOPEAA worked to create the stage for the site-specific installation. The challenge was to turn the house of light designed by Alvar Aalto in 1956, itself a historical landmark,  to a setting for a video piece requiring almost complete darkness. Minimal touches were used and carefully consisted solutions were applied to create just the right kind of atmosphere to appreciate the art installation; the bright and airy Pavilion is temporarily transformed into a totally different kind of spatial and emotional experience.

The opening ceremony will be held at the Pavilion on 6th May at 14.00. The 56th La Biennale di Venezia is open from 9th May to 22nd November 2015.
