PUUKUOKKA, PHASE TWO started

The construction of Puukuokka Two on site has started.  The Puukuokka apartment complex is getting a new addition. Puukuokka Two will soon be making company to Puukuokka One which was completed in the spring of 2015.  When completed, the Puukuokka wooden apartment block in the Kuokkala neighborhood in Jyväskylä will be composed of three wooden multi-story buildings. The on site construction of the second part of the trio, Puukuokka Two has now started. The expected date on completion for Puukuokka Two is set for spring 2017. Like Puukuokka One, Puukuokka Two will be composed of CLT. With a fully wooden load-bearing frame, the seven-story building will make use of the modular system developed when designing Puukuokka One. The Suvela Chapel Inaugurated on September 4, 2016

The Suvela Chapel in Espoo designed by OOPEAA was inaugurated on September 4, 2016. The Suvela chapel was commissioned by the Espoo Parish Union and it will be used jointly by the Espoo Paris Union, the Swedish Parish of Espoo and the City of Espoo to serve the entire community of Suvela. It is a multifunctional building that offers a space for the people of the community to use together for their many different needsregardless of their religious affiliation. The Suvela Chapel has been nominated one of the four final candidates for the Finlandia Prize for Architecture 2016  The Finlandia Prize The Finlandia Prize for Architecture was established in 2011 by SAFA, the Finnish Association of Architects. Periscope Tower is now open to the public

The Periscope Tower is a giant wooden periscope structure that serves as an observation tower and engages the viewer in a dialogue with the landscape. With the help of a large mirror the Periscope Tower makes it possible for everyone to enjoy the views of the surrounding landscape. OOPEAA is designing a new multi-storey wooden apartment building to be built in Joensuu

Construction of the six-storey wooden apartment building in Penttilä, Joensuu is starting today.  The building is the first multi-storey wooden apartment building in Joensuu. It has been commissioned by the Joensuun Pihapetäjä Housing Cooperative owned by the Karelian Culture Promotion Foundation (KKES) and it provides 40 rental units of affordable housing. The structure of the building is based on prefabricated volumetric modules made of cross-laminated timber (CLT). Ulkometsä Kindergarten in Kokkola completed

At the beginning of 2014 OOPEAA, with PEAB Ltd, won a competition organized by the Municipality of Kokkola for a new kindergarten. The construction started in June 2014 and this autumn, the building is put into use. Located in a suburban residential area, the building is organized on the lot in an L-shape, around the yard, located towards south to get the best insulation. The layout separates the yard from the street on the north side of the site and from the parking, protecting the playground in a gentle way. Puukuokka Housing Block / new publications

The first building in the Puukuokka Housing Block was just recently completed. Puukuokka is the first eight-story high wooden apartment building in Finland. Developed in collaboration with Lakea, it is an energy-efficient trio of multi-story wood-framed flats in the Jyväskylä suburb of Kuokkala, neighboring the Kuokkala Church, also designed by OOPEAA. Lonna Sauna

The OOPEAA team is thrilled to be working on a new project for a public sauna to be located on the small Lonna island, between the “Kauppatori” Market Square in the heart of downtown Helsinki and the Suomenlinna fortress, one of the Unesco world heritage sites. The new building is commissioned by the Governing Body of Suomenlinna.
