We are proud to announce that House Riihi by OOPEAA was shortlisted as nominee in the WoodPrize / Puupalkinto 2014, organized by Woodinfo / Puuinfo Finland since 1994. The prize will be assigned today, 27th November, during the happenings of Puupäivä, the Finnish “day of wood”. Organized in Helsinki by Puuinfo.fi, Puupäiva is one of the main events for the wood industry, bringing together firms, producers, builders and designers interested in wood products and technology. House Riihi / Mies Prize nominee

We are happy to announce that House Riihi has been nominated amongst the projects for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award 2015. Launched in 1987, the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award is one of the most prestigious acknowledgments for European architects. Puukuokka Block 1

In the Jyväskylä suburb of Kuokkala, the first part of the Puukuokka Housing Block is nearing completion. Puukuokka 1, the first part of a complex to be composed of three wooden multi-story apartment buildings, is expected to be completed by the end of November 2014. It will be the first wooden apartment building of the height of 8 stories in Finland.

Konsthall Tornedalen in progress

In 2012 OOPEAA, operating under the name Lassila Hirvilammi Architects at the time, won the competition for a new art museum in Vitsaniemi in the Swedish Lapland. The Konsthall Tornedalen will be located on the beautiful banks of the river Kemijoki that marks  the border between Finland and Sweden. With the design phase now under way, the building is scheduled to be completed in 2016.  Some days ago Gunhild Stensmyr, the commissioner  of the future Konsthall, visited the OOPEAA office in Seinäjoki to brainstorm with the architects about the project and to earnestly kick off the first phase of the design process The meeting […]
